fuel tank sending unit 1980 amc concord (& 80-88 eagle)

The fuel tank sending unit in my 1980 amc concord will not read below 1/3rd tank. I pulled the gas tank, removed & disassembled the sending unit only to find the resistive winding wire was broken. The rest of the sending unit is in good condition. I have located a new one for $129.00 but I would rather save some money & see someone else on Ebay get some $$$. If I can get my hands on a good used one or one with a good winding I could fix mine. I want to keep it under $40 (shipping included).
